Linux music making
Ableton doesn't work on Linux. There are a few cases where people did get it to work, but also lots where they couldn't. Not sure about how plugins / instruments / etc would work moving forward. Do you think you can make it work on your system?
Linux doesn't have any fully-rounded DAWs free.
Also, they all use an external program called "Jack" or QJackctl" that handles the audio on Linux. I don't know why this is required. When you use any of these programs, Jack is started, which freezes other audio and programs (YouTube freezes), at least on my computer. Apparently, this can be fixed, but how?
Ardour has no drumracks. You can only record audio tracks. You can't assign samples to keys and record/program a drum sequence to play your audio over.
LMMS (I forget what was wrong with it)
A lot of the other Linux programs didn't work right when I tried them out, for various reasons: Bitwig, Tracktion, Radium.
Seq24 controls:
- hold right-mouse and tap left-mouse to write in a note.
- backslash turns squares on and off at the end of a measure
- otherwise, the key is shown in the bottom corner of the squares to toggle them
